Although Skip was raised with Boxers and they traveled with his family around the world, I came to know this wonderful breed when we married in 1986, and decided that our children Matt (then 7) and Brooke (then 5) might like to share their lives with a dog. We made calls and found a litter in Wisconsin, an hour away from our home in Minneapolis. We visited the litter and decided to take a plain fawn bitch home with us. And then we were hooked.
We thought she needed a German name and called her “Gretchen”. She had a mind of her own, but I did put a Companion Dog title on her and she went down in the record books as the first Boxer to obtain an American Flyball Dog degree.
Gretchen lived to be 9 years old.
